Here’s how he does it:
1. Start with a Proper Warmup A few light sets to get blood flowing and joints ready. This sets the stage for heavier work.
2. Heavy Single Rep Mike works up to a challenging single rep. Today he pressed 275 lbs. He attempted 295 but missed. That heavy attempt still activates key muscle fibers.
3. Drop Sets to Failure After the max, he lowers the weight and pushes to failure. Then lowers again. And repeats. The goal is to fully fatigue the chest through every range of motion.
Why it works
This approach combines maximum tension with full fatigue. Heavy lifting recruits large muscle fibers. Drop sets extend time under tension and drive metabolic stress. Together, they stimulate new growth.
Mike uses this method once a week. It’s enough to keep progress steady while allowing recovery.
Simple. Focused. Consistent.
